The Elections System of the Virgin Islands registers voters and runs elections in the territory, and its St. Thomas district office is in the Lockhart Garden Shopping Center. A new resident can register to vote if they are a U.S. citizen, are 18 or will turn 18 before the next election, meet the residency requirement and are not registered anywhere else, among other conditions. Registration requires an original birth certificate, U.S. passport, military discharge form (DD214) or naturalization certificate, and copies are not accepted. You can register online or in person, and you must be registered at least 30 days before an election to vote in it. St. John residents may also register at the St. Thomas office. Because you cannot be registered anywhere else, cancel any registration where you lived before. The website offers a voter lookup, absentee ballot requests, polling places, sample ballots and the election calendar.
