Virgin Islands Department of Education

The Virgin Islands Department of Education, or VIDE, runs the territory's public schools in two districts, St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix, from pre-kindergarten through Grade 12. Virgin Islands law requires children aged 5 through 18 to be enrolled in a public, private or parochial school or in a home instruction program. The department registers new public school students all year when they are moving from off island, from a non-public school or from home instruction, and its Student Services Registration Division decides school placement. VIDE also issues the Certificate of Operation that every legally operating private or parochial school must hold, and parents who teach at home email it a Notice of Intent each year. Its website lists every public school with contact details, posts the academic calendar and offers sign-up for VIDE Alerts. The 2026-2027 school year began on August 10, 2026.
