CHANT: Crucian Heritage and Nature Tourism

CHANT, short for Crucian Heritage and Nature Tourism, is a St. Croix organization based on Customs House Street in Frederiksted that runs guided history walks and heritage projects. Its Frederiksted Walking Tour leaves from the Freedom Statue across from the pier entrance at 9:00 am and spends about two and a half hours on the waterfront, Fort Frederik, Victorian townhouses and historic churches, including buildings rebuilt after the 1878 Fireburn. Its Alexander Hamilton Walking Tour meets at the Customs House in Christiansted every Tuesday at 9:30 am and follows Hamilton's early life in the town. The Frederiksted walk needs at least five people. Both tours are booked online, and CHANT also lists a virtual Frederiksted tour. For newcomers, a guided walk is a practical way to learn the history and layout of either town before choosing where to live.
