Down South Charters

Down South Charters runs private trips on St. Croix aboard Love Alone, a 36-foot Yellowfin center console, for up to 12 guests. Fishing charters last four, six or eight hours: the four-hour trip stays near shore for barracuda, mackerel and jacks and suits children and beginners, while longer trips head offshore for mahi, wahoo, tuna and marlin. Fishing and snorkeling gear, licenses, bait, ice and water are included; the crew cleans the catch, and guests may keep up to 25 pounds of whole fish. The boat also runs snorkeling and family charters mixing snorkeling, fishing and beach stops; two-hour sunset cruises; and eight- or 10-hour crossings to St. Thomas and St. John, about 40 miles north. Trips leave from Green Cay Marina or the east end of the Christiansted boardwalk, and the captain calls with the exact dock. A 20 percent deposit is due at booking, and gratuity is extra.
