Creque Dam is a 45-foot arch dam in the rainforest on St. Croix's West End, on Creque Dam Road (Route 58). It was built in 1926 to give Frederiksted a reliable water supply and was designed to hold up to 9 million gallons, but it is now largely filled with silt and holds much water only after heavy rain, when water can spill over the top. The forest around it has mahogany, turpentine and kapok trees, ferns and vines, and old fruit trees such as mangoes, papayas and breadfruit. Several trails lead to or pass the dam, and GoToStCroix mentions guided eco-hikes in the area by the St. Croix Hiking Association. Some of the safety railings are missing, so keep back from the edge. No source lists parking, facilities, fees or hours for the site.
