The Frederiksted Historic District is the old town of Frederiksted, the port on St. Croix's West End, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The Danish West India and Guinea Company approved a town at the western end of the island in 1751 and named it for King Frederik V. The Register record notes Georgian, Late Victorian and Gothic Revival buildings and marks 1752, 1848 and 1878 as key years: the start of Fort Frederik, the emancipation revolt and the labor uprising known as the Fireburn. Fort Frederik, a contributing building at the north end of the waterfront, is now a museum, the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts is at 10 Strand Street, and cruise ships tie up at the Frederiksted Pier. The Department of Tourism suggests seeing historic Frederiksted on a walking tour. There is street parking on Strand Street.
