Around Frederiksted
The Vincent F. Mason Sr. Coral Resort and Park is a beachfront public park and pool at Stony Ground, near Frederiksted, run by the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation (DSPR). Rebuilt after Hurricanes Irma and Maria for just over $6.3 million, mostly from FEMA, it reopened on May 9, 2025, according to the Office of Disaster Recovery. The work added picnic benches, grill stations, restrooms, cabanas and a strengthened pavilion, and the new pool has a gently sloping, beach-style entry and an ADA-compliant lift. At the reopening, DSPR said it expected to open the park daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the pool on the same hours when a lifeguard is on duty. DSPR has not published hours or fees since, so call its St. Croix office (340-773-0160) before you go. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources tests the seawater at Stony Ground weekly.
