Butler Bay is a beach on St. Croix's West End, north of Frederiksted on Route 63, past Sprat Hall and the turn for Creque Dam Road (Route 58). Park on the roadside, leave no valuables in the car, and go by day. There are no facilities and only some shade trees, so bring water and sun protection. The water is usually calm, but currents can be strong, so it is not a good place for open-water swimming. Tide pools along the shore hold many small fish; wear sturdy shoes, because the rock and coral are sharp. Five shipwrecks lie offshore. Some can be reached as shore dives, but they are easiest to reach by boat with a local dive shop, especially when the current is strong. Sea turtles nest on the beach. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) does not test the water here.
Services
- Roadside parking
- No facilities
- Snorkeling in the tide pools
- Shipwreck dives offshore, by boat or from shore
