Chenay Bay Beach, also called Southgate Beach, is on St. Croix's East End, a little over 3 miles east of Christiansted. It runs from the entrance to Green Cay Marina east to Bungalows on the Bay, formerly Chenay Bay Beach Resort, beside the 100-acre Southgate Coastal Reserve. Turn off East End Road (Route 82) at the Southgate Coastal Reserve sign and follow the road to some parking by the beach. The shallow, calm water over a grassy bottom has starfish, conch and sea turtles and suits young children, and snorkeling is good along the right side of the bay near the point. There is plenty of shade, but amenities are only at the hotel end, so bring water and a chair. Three species of sea turtles nest on the beach berm, so give nests room. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources tests the water here weekly.
Services
- Some parking at the beach
- Calm, shallow water
- Snorkeling near the point
- Amenities only at the hotel end

Source: GoToStCroix, https://www.gotostcroix.com/discover/beaches/chenay-bay/ (copyright 2026; location, directions, conditions, shade, Southgate Coastal Reserve, turtle nesting, amenities at the hotel end only); DPNR beach advisories, https://dpnr.vi.gov/beach-advisory/ (Chenay Bay is a monitored beach); all accessed 2026-10-30. The GoToStCroix page contradicts itself on the marine park zone (no-take versus limited hook-and-line fishing), so no fishing rule is stated. Green Cay and Southgate are East End Census estates.
