Coakley Bay Beach is a long, shaded beach on the north shore of St. Croix's East End, between Prune Bay and the Coakley Bay Condominiums. Drive east from Christiansted on East End Road and take the first left after Miss Bea Road, a dirt road beside the Carden Bay estate fence that ends at the beach; there is some parking along it. GoToStCroix lists no facilities, so bring water and sun protection, and leave no valuables in the car at this remote spot. The water is usually calm, but rocks, shells and sea urchins call for water shoes, and snorkeling is limited. It is usually quiet apart from kitesurfers and tour-group barbecues. The bay is in the St. Croix East End Marine Park; GoToStCroix says personal watercraft are banned. Check the park's zone rules before fishing. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources does not test the water here.

Services

  • Roadside parking on the dirt access road

  • Calm water with a rocky bottom; water shoes advised

How we checked

Last verified on October 30, 2026. We checked it against the sources below.

Source: GoToStCroix, https://www.gotostcroix.com/discover/beaches/coakley-bay/ (copyright 2026; location between Prune Bay and Coakley Bay Condominiums, directions, parking, no amenities, valuables, conditions, kitesurfers and tour barbecues, marine park, no personal watercraft); DPNR marine protected areas page, https://dpnr.vi.gov/coastal-zone-management/what-we-do/marine-protected-areas/ (East End Marine Park zones and fishing rules); DPNR beach data, https://dpnr.vi.gov/beach-advisory/ and https://dpnr.vi.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Beach-Data-10.30.26.pdf (Coakley Bay is not among the monitored beaches); all accessed 2026-10-30. GoToStCroix places the bay in the No Take Zone but also describes hook-and-line fishing from the beach, which DPNR's zone description does not allow there, so no fishing rule is stated. MySTCroix, https://mystcroix.vi/st-croix-beaches (copyright 2026), marks 'Coakley Beach' with bar, rental and restroom symbols that GoToStCroix does not list; no current source confirms them, so the description attributes the lack of facilities to GoToStCroix. Map point: GNIS feature 1613818 (Bay), 'Coakley Bay'; GNIS has no Beach feature for it.
