Long Reef Beach, sometimes called Sugar Beach, runs along St. Croix's north shore just west of Christiansted, in front of the condominiums between Mill Harbour and Club St. Croix. For the public access, take Northside Road out of Christiansted, turn right at the first road after the Puma gas station, and park in the dirt lot where the road ends at a fence. A large reef shelters the beach; the water can be murky and gets shallower along the shore, with small tide pools. Snorkelers head for Long Reef and Tire Reef, off Mill Harbour. GoToStCroix lists a bar and restaurant at each end, but chairs, hammocks and other facilities are for condo guests and restaurant customers. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources' nearest weekly test site, Princess (Condo Row), failed the bacteria standard on October 16 and 30, 2026; check the latest advisory before swimming.

Services

  • Public access path with a dirt parking lot at the road's end
  • Bars and restaurants at Mill Harbour and near Club St. Croix
  • Chairs and hammocks for condo guests and restaurant customers only
  • Snorkeling at Long Reef and Tire Reef

DPNR does not publish where the Princess (Condo Row) site is; it is matched to this shore by name and location: GNIS places Estate Little Princess North (1994271) on this shore, about two-thirds of a mile west of Sugar Beach, and no other DPNR site is closer. Map point: GNIS feature 1993667 (Beach), 'Sugar Beach'. GNIS also has a 'Cathys Fancy Beach' (1993769) about half a mile west on the same shore.
