Rainbow Beach is a public beach on the West End of St. Croix, on Route 63 about a mile north of the Frederiksted Pier. The water is usually calm and clear, which suits swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkeling, though the bottom is rocky in places, so watch your step. A beachside bar and restaurant and a watersports concession operate here; the concession rents jet skis, kayaks, paddleboards, snorkel gear, chairs and umbrellas and runs jet ski tours along the West End. There is public parking. Shade is limited, so bring sun protection or rent an umbrella. The beach is busy on weekends, especially Sundays, and on cruise ship days, often with live music and a volleyball net, and the Department of Tourism notes its sunset views. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) tests the water here weekly; check its latest advisory before swimming.
