The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority, or VIWMA, handles household trash, landfills and wastewater in the territory, and its St. Croix office is at Estate Glynn, near Kingshill. Household waste on St. Croix goes to the Anguilla Landfill, either through house-to-house collection or directly, and the authority lists only two public bin sites on the island. Since June 1, 2026, homes with house-to-house collection must use a trash cart of no more than 64 gallons with two handles and a lid that closes, and crews may refuse carts that do not comply. Approved carts are sold at the Anguilla Landfill scale house and the Estate Glynn office, and compliant retail carts are also accepted. Owners of apartment buildings with four or more units must hire a private hauler. The landfill refuses items such as tires, electronics, used motor oil and hazardous chemicals, so ask VIWMA where to take them.
