The Jack and Isaac Bay trail crosses The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) Jack and Isaac Bay Preserve on the far East End, 300 acres that TNC keeps open to the public. It starts at a small, signed roadside parking area on East End Road (Route 82), about 0.2 miles before Point Udall; parking is tight on weekends. The path drops through dry coastal scrub to East End Bay in about 10 minutes, then follows the shore west to Isaac Bay, with a short spur past a rocky headland to Jack Bay. GoToStCroix gives 2 to 3 miles and 20 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes round trip, rated easy to moderate, on dirt, sand and loose rock. There is almost no shade and no water, restroom or lifeguard, so carry water and sun protection and leave no valuables in the car. Stay on the trail and away from marked turtle nests.
Services
- Signed roadside trailhead parking on Route 82
- About 2 to 3 miles round trip, easy to moderate (GoToStCroix)
- Little shade; no facilities
How we checked
Last verified on October 31, 2026. We checked it against the sources below.
Source: GoToStCroix, https://www.gotostcroix.com/discover/hiking-trails/jack-isaac-bay-hike/ (copyright 2026; signed trailhead on East End Road (Route 82) about 0.2 miles before Point Udall, tight weekend parking, dry coastal scrub, East End Bay in about ten minutes, route west to Isaac's Bay and the spur to Jack's Bay, 2 to 3 miles and 20 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes round trip, easy to moderate, about 150 feet of elevation change, terrain, little shade, no restrooms, water or lifeguards, valuables, stay on marked trails, turtle nesting guidelines); The Nature Conservancy, https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/us-virgin-islands-jack-and-isaac-bays/ (300-acre preserve established 1999, open to the public, largest green and hawksbill nesting populations on St. Croix); DPNR, https://dpnr.vi.gov/coastal-zone-management/what-we-do/marine-protected-areas/ (Sea Turtle Preserve zone off East End, Isaac and Jack bays); all accessed 2026-10-31. No agency publishes a trail length; the figures are GoToStCroix's. Sources differ on nesting species and months (TNC: green and hawksbill, July to December; GoToStCroix: leatherbacks, March to August), so the listing gives none. Map point: the coordinate TNC publishes for the preserve, 17.748394, -64.577339, rounded; it marks the preserve, not the trailhead.
