The Bordeaux Mountain Trail runs from Bordeaux Mountain, St. John's highest peak, down to Lameshur Bay in Virgin Islands National Park. The Department of Tourism rates it challenging and gives 1.2 miles, from a trailhead about 1,300 feet above sea level through tropical forest to the bay, with the ruins of an 18th-century rum distillery. The park publishes no length, time or trailhead directions, so call its visitor center (340-776-6201, weekdays) before going. Carry plenty of water; cell service is limited or absent. At the bottom, the Lameshur Bay Trail continues west toward Reef Bay; land south of that trail, between Reef Bay and Europa Bay, is closed to protect a rare plant. The bay end depends on the Lameshur Road, which the park planned to close for rebuilding from September 2026 to February 2027; no closure alert was posted as of October 31, 2026.
