Hurricane shutters and impact windows

Home and property

Storm shutters and impact-rated windows protect openings during hurricanes and can matter to an insurer. Shutter types include panels, accordion and roll-down shutters, and impact windows replace shutters on some homes. Ask a supplier which product ratings they install, how the shutters are anchored to concrete or wood, how long installation takes, and whether the work needs a permit from the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR). Before a storm season, ask how quickly they can service or replace parts. Each listing shows when we last verified it.
