Claude O. Markoe Elementary School is a public PreK-6 school at Mars Hill, Frederiksted, run by the St. Croix District of the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE). On VIDE's 2026-27 assignment map it serves the town of Frederiksted and the west end estates from Hams Bluff to Whim, with grades 7-8 at Arthur A. Richards PreK-8 and high school at the St. Croix Educational Complex. Students also take physical education, music and computer literacy, the school has a band, and teachers use historic Frederiksted for field trips and local history lessons. A VIDE public notice in spring 2026 listed the campus for demolition and replacement with a modernized school; it gave no construction dates. To enroll, complete VIDE's online St. Croix pre-registration form, then register in person at the district office with the child and original documents, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Student Services assigns the school.
