Title companies

Home and property

A title company searches the public records for the property you want to buy, reports any liens, easements or gaps in ownership, and can issue title insurance that protects you or your lender if a problem surfaces later. In the islands, recorded documents are kept by the Recorder of Deeds at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Ask what the search covers, how long it takes, what the owner's and lender's policies cost, and whether the company also handles the closing. Each listing shows when we last verified it.
