Phantasea Tropical Botanical Garden is a privately owned garden in Estate Lerkenlund, on Bishop Drive (Route 338), which opened to the public in 2015 after more than 20 years of planting by owner Patsy Breunlin. About two acres of paths hold heliconias, gingers, palms, orchids, bromeliads, aroids and cactus, with resident parrots and peacocks. It closes every year for repairs; its website and Department of Tourism listing give the current break as August 26 to November 17, with a few select open days, before regular hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday, resume. One-day visitors can call 340-642-4954 to arrange a time. Admission is $12 for visitors, $10 for seniors and military and $8 for residents with ID, with lower children's rates. Bishop Drive is one way: drive about 20 feet past the garden sign and park in the lot on the main road.
