Limestone Bay is a secluded bay on the southeast side of Water Island. The Water Island Ferry leaves Crown Bay Marina on St. Thomas about every hour for the 10-minute ride to Philips Landing; check its schedule for the last boat back. The island has no buses or taxis. Golf carts rent about two minutes' walk from the dock and can sell out, so the Department of Tourism advises reserving one. Tourism warns that the beach is rocky, so wear water shoes, and suggests snorkeling or diving at nearby Supermarket Reef, where coral grows in long spurs. No source lists restrooms, shade, vendors or lifeguards, so bring water and carry out your trash. Under Virgin Islands law the shore is public up to the high-water mark. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources does not test the water at Limestone Bay.

Services

  • Water Island Ferry from Crown Bay Marina, then a golf cart
  • Rocky shore: water shoes advised
  • Snorkeling and diving at nearby Supermarket Reef
