Vessup Beach lines Vessup Bay at the East End of St. Thomas, near Red Hook, and looks across Pillsbury Sound toward St. John. The Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation lists it among its public beaches. The shore is long and wide and is not groomed, so expect soft sand with driftwood and, at times, seagrass at the water's edge. The bay is usually calm, and locals use it to launch small sailboats, paddleboards and kayaks. There are no rental stands, so bring your own gear, and no source lists restrooms or lifeguards. Caribbean Journal describes it as quiet, especially in the early evening. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources found bacteria above its limit here in three weekly tests between July and September 2026 and advises avoiding water affected by stormwater runoff or heavy sargassum, so check its latest advisory before swimming, especially after rain.
Services
