Galangal

Galangal is a fine-dining restaurant in the 1789 Great House on Church Street in Christiansted, St. Croix, cooking Thai and Southeast Asian food that it also calls French-Asian fusion. It opened in 2008. The small indoor dining room is decorated with pieces the owners collected in Thailand and Vietnam, and each summer they bring back curry powder and spices from Thailand. Curries are the heart of the menu: Massaman, red and green curries with meat or shrimp, and crispy red snapper over curry. Starters include Vietnamese summer rolls, tom ka gai soup, crispy fried squid and mussels in red curry broth. Vegan curries are available on request, the chef adds seasonal specials nightly, and the wine list includes many bottles imported directly from Germany. Dinner is served Wednesday to Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m.; reserve by phone. The menu says it takes Mastercard and Visa, not American Express.
