The St. Croix Alternative Education Program, also called the Safe and Healthy Students Program, is a public program of the St. Croix District of the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) for students at high risk of serious behavior problems. It works with the schools its students come from and pairs academic help, through online courseware, contextualized learning plans and remediation, with behavior support that includes cognitive behavior therapy, trauma-informed and restorative practices, and wraparound services for students and their families. It is based at Estate La Grande Princesse, Christiansted. VIDE listed the program among its schools in October 2026, and its 2025-26 schedule, the latest posted, grouped it with the island's high schools, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. The program's website does not explain how students are referred, so families should ask their child's school or the district's student services office (student.services@stx.k12.vi).

Services

  • Academic intervention with Edmentum courseware, Achieve3000 and i-Ready
  • Multi-tiered behavior support and counseling
  • Guidance counselor on staff
